Literature:
Chamberlain, Gala, In a Modern Rendering: The Color Woodcuts of Gustave Baumann, Rizzoli Electa, New York, 2019, pp. 200-201

Catalog Note:
Examples of this woodcut can be found in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago (inscribed no 10/100) and the New Mexico Museum of Art (inscribed no 13/100). Baumann utilized an additional black block on some impressions, such as the woodcut offered here, for added texture and depth. Chamberlain pointed out that this is particularly noticeable with "a dark edging to the grasses at the lower border, shoes to the man's feet and shadows under them, a long handle to the umbrella, and mass to the tree trunks." A proof of this woodcut can be found in the collection of the Baumann estate (with a printed oval with the Swanli chop hand-drawn).
