Wright and Winslow handprinted a total of 90 copies of The House Beautiful in the small workshop of the Auvergne Press, located within the Wright-designed Winslow House in River Forest, Illinois. Originally written by William C. Gannet and published in 1895, The House Beautiful explored the idea of complementary home design and furnishings that would bring the environment and people together. Wright was immediately captivated by the book and decided to publish it, while adding his own designs to the text.
