Catalog Note:
Anti-Design: Archizoom Associati was an active design collective based in Florence and Milan from 1966 until it disbanded in 1974. Their best-known furniture design, the Mies chair and ottoman, was largely a reaction to the unadorned rationalist ideas of designers such as Mies van der Rohe. Both welcoming and oddly disruptive, its oversimplification of modernist geometries and materials exemplifies many of the group's motivations, deliberately challenging pervasive understandings of functional space.
